Jean Draper is a thirty-seven-year-old mother of two and an avid runner and triathlete. In 1995 in Colorado Springs, CO, she was hit by a teenage driver at a park while getting her son out of her car. This traumatic incident severed her right foot and resulted in a below-the-knee amputation of her right leg. The accident and injuries were devastating to Jean and her family. Being a runner who was just starting to get involved in the sport of triathlon, she couldn't imagine how she would be able to continue down that road.
In May 2008, Jean competed in two ten-kilometer races. By that July, she competed in her first sprint-distance triathlon since her accident. In August of 2008 she completed a second sprint-distance triathlon, followed by her first half-marathon as an amputee in September. In October 2008, Jean came to A Step Ahead Prosthetics to receive a new running leg and became a member of Team Step Ahead. Highlights:
