Sports: Motorcycle Racing Rich was always an athlete. He played lacrosse and football from 4th grade through high school as well as wrestling and swimming. He began racing motorcycles as a youngster with his father and brother and resumed racing more seriously again in his late 20's. In 2000 he lost the championship by 1 point in the +30 class. In September 2001 he crashed fracturing his tibia and fibula of his left leg. After multiple surgeries to attempt to save his left leg, which included limb lengthening procedures, he developed an infection. He then was given the choice of having his left ankle fused or having a below the knee amputation. In January of 2003 he had his left leg amputated and received his first prosthesis. Not happy with the function and fit of his first prosthesis he began to research other prosthetists. He was then was referred to A Step Ahead and as Rich says, “The rest is history”. A prosthesis was specifically designed for Rich for motorcycle racing. This past season he competed in 106 races. He is in the process of starting a race team, and will compete in the national endurance series and the moto-st series starting in Daytona
